Chandigarh, August 27- The Project Jagriti, launched under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme by the Haryana Government, has proved to be effective. Under the Project, a campaign was launched to generate awareness about gender equality to 10,576 students from Class VI to Class VIII in 100 government schools of Jhajjar and Rohtak districts so as to change the mindset. In view of success of this project, now the Project Jagriti would be run in all the districts to ensure equal status to girls in the society.
Project Director, Chief Minister's Good Governance Associates (CMGGA) Programme, Dr Rakesh Gupta gave this information, while addressing the gathering during a function organised on the completion of one year of Project Jagriti in Panchkula today.
He said that it was the vision of the Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal that daughters should also get equal rights and respect as sons in society. For this purpose, this project was initiated by the Chief Minister. He said that UNICEF, Relaxo Company and an NGO named Mamta have also supported Project Jagriti. He said that eight point modules were worked for one year in 100 schools in Jhajjar and Rohtak districts and today we can proudly say that there has been a change in the mindset of not only children but also in their parents towards gender equality.
He said that educating students about gender equality is a great investment for our society and this awareness would continue to grow among children for years. He said that earlier, there was a perception about Haryana that daughters are not allowed to be born here. On this very serious subject, Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi launched Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme from Haryana. He said that gradually with the support of the government and society, record increase in sex ratio was recorded.
He said that in 2014, the sex ratio was 871 girls per 1,000 boys. In 2015, the number of girls per 1,000 boys was 876, in 2016 it was 900 and in 2017, it was 914. In the first six months of 2019, this figure has reached 918 and this number is expected to be 922 by the end of 2019, which will be the highest in the history till date. He said that from January 2015 till date, about 21,000 daughters have been saved.
He said that to provide the daughters equal rights and respect in the society, the project Jagriti has been started. He said that besides the government, everyone should participate together for such a change.
On this occasion, school children, teachers and parents of children from Jhajjar and Rohtak also shared their experiences during Project Jagriti.
