- Chandigarh, September 10- In Haryana, the government procurement agencies will procure the entire crop of bajra that will arrive in the mandis, during the coming procurement season. This year, bajra has been sown on an area of 5.50 lakh hectares and its estimated production is 11.28 lakh metric tonnes.
- The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr O.P. Dhankar was replying to a question raised by MLA, Mr Abhay Singh Yadav during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha, here today.
- Mr Dhankar also apprised the House that the recent announcement by Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi regarding increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of kharif crops, has increased the price of bajra by about 97 per cent and bajra would be procured at the rate of Rs 1,950 per quintal through government agencies.
- He said that highest bajra crop has been sown in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri on 112,000 hectares area, whereas in Mahendragarh on 105,000 hectares, in Rewari on 74,000 hectares, in Jhajjar area on 50,000 hectares, in Hisar on 45,000 hectares, in Jind on 31,000 hectares, in Gurugram on 35,000 hectares, in Mewat on 30,000 hectares, in Sonipat and Palwal on 10,000 hectares each.
- The yield of bajra crop is estimated to be higher in districts Mahendragarh, Rewari, Charkhi Dadri, Jhajjar, Bhiwani and Dadri, Mewat and Gurugram, he added.
