- Chandigarh, May 20---The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has urged the people of the state to observe Sunday as no-criticism day, and asked the youth to focus on what they can do for the country instead of asking what the country can do for them.
- Addressing about 10,000-strong gathering at the inauguration of Raahgiri, government’s people-administration connect initiative, in Kurukshetra district today, he said the country faced the challenge how to improve its abysmal world happiness ranking of 133 among 156 countries.
- It is a matter of grave concern that almost all South Asian countries are way ahead of India in the annual report published by a UN body. Pakistan at 75, China at 86, Bhutan at 97, Bangladesh at 115 and Sri Lanka at 116 are way ahead of us. Among the 25 happiest countries in the world, Finland, Norway and Denmark are among the first three, US is eighteenth and Britain nineteenth.
- Six variables used to calculate a country’s happiness index are income, healthy life expectancy, social support, freedom, trust and generosity.
- What is surprising, the Chief Minister said, is the fact that despite being one of the fastest growing economies of the world and having a life expectancy over 70 years, we are among the 25 unhappiest countries on the planet. The government is trying to create additional income and employment opportunities through its pro-people policies and programs, he added.
- He said Sunday, in true sense, is FUN day - F standing for forgiveness, U for untying oneself, and N for no-criticism, at least one day in a week. He asked the people to stay positive and shun negativity in life. Events like Rahagiri are aimed at giving people recreational opportunities and celebrate the sense of togetherness.
- He expressed happiness that starting from Gurugram a few years ago, Raahgiri is being organised by the administration in 13 districts and will soon be held in all other districts of the state.
- To mark the occasion, the Chief Minister flagged off three km of the fun run and participated in malkhambh, boxing, volleyball and wresting games. He greeted yoga practitioners and appreciated paintings by school girls. Present on the occasion were Mr Krishan Bedi, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Local MLA, Subhash Sudha and other respectable persons of the society.
- Chandigarh, May 20—The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has said that while one former chief minister was cooling his heels in jail, another ex-chief minister is set to go to jail.
- Speaking at a function organized to mark Maharana Pratap Jayanti at Safidon in Jind district, today, the Chief Minister said since the inception of Haryana, various governments were formed in the state but none could claim that they stayed away from corruption. In sharp contrast, during the three-and-a-half years of his government, there have been no allegations of any scandals against any minister or MLA.
- “I can say confidently that the present government has uplifted the living standards of people and made efforts to change the direction of the society for the better. “Changing the direction of this society is our main aim as we believe Haryana Ek- Haryanvi Ek”, he added.
- Chandigarh, May 20--The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal today announced that any house in the state which did not have gas connection would be provided with one within 48 hours. As many as three lakh gas connections have been provided in the state so far.
- Speaking at a function organized to mark Maharana Pratap Jayanti at Safidon in Jind district today, he announced a housing scheme for Garhia Lohar community which remained associated with Mahrana Pratap during his crucial days and said that a chowk would be named after Maharana Pratap.
- He desired that Garhia Lohar community should settle at one place and pay attention to their families. The state government would provide free houses to them under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna Scheme. Ten thousand houses would be constructed under this scheme. He asked people to register themselves to avail of the benefits of the scheme.
- A memorial would be built in the name of Prithvi Raj Chauhan at Taraori in Karnal. He also announce grant of Rs. 21 lakh for the construction of dharmshala in Panchkula.
- The Pond Development Authority has been constituted for the renovation of ponds in Haryana, and as many as 14,000 ponds would be repaired. This work would be completed within six months. Similarly, about 9,000 shamshan ghats and graveyards would be provided with basic infrastructure facilities like the boundary wall, sheds, drinking water and concrete roads etc. A sum of Rs. 700 crore has been earmarked for this purpose and Rs. 45 crore has been allocated for Jind district, he added.
- Chandigarh, May 20—The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has said that the responsibility for implementing the Swaminathan Commission report rested with the former Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who was then chairman of the working group of Chief Ministers on agriculture production, but he didn’t do anything during and kept pretending to be a leader of the farmers.
- Interacting with the villagers of Munak in Karnal district today, he said his government had worked for the farmers during the last three-and-a-half years.
- “The self-claimed farmers’ leader never thought of doubling the income of farmers. On the other hand, we have implemented Bhwantar Yojana to save the farmers from damage to their crops, and told them ghaata sarkar ka fayda kisan ka (under the scheme all loss would be of the state government and all profit would be of farmers,” he added.
- He said the Fasal Bima Yojana implemented by the present government had benefitted thousands of farmers. Farmers were given compensation at the rate of Rs 12,000 per acre for the loss of crops due to natural calamities. Now, it is for the people to decide which government is farmers’ friendly, he added.
- On the Jail Bharo Aandolan call for which had been given by an Opposition party, he said the party was raising the waters issue just to register its presence. During their regime they never remembered SYL Canal. He urged the public not to fall into the trap of such political leaders as fooled them for their own political interests.
- The Chief Minister announced a bonanza of development works worth crores of rupees for Munak village. These include 24-hour power supply, a police station, primary health centre, construction of sub-yard in anaj mandi, and providing full staff at school.
- Mr Manohar Lal said the state government would complete all development works which had been announced. Money provided for such works should be spent appropriately and with caution. Strict action would be taken against anyone involved in embezzlement of government funds.
- He also announced Rs 15 lakh for the construction of langar hall in three gurudwaras, Rs 5 lakh for the construction of chaupal, road from Sataundi to village Picholiya, and Rs 5 lakh for Kashyap Chaupal in village Kutana. He also announced that vyayamshalas would be built in the villages of Kutana, Balla, Pardhana and Mor Majra.
- Mr Manohar Lal said he had asked Assandh MLA, Mr Bakshish Singh Virk, to hold a small program to meet party workers, but the massive gathering at Munak only proved that the people were happy with working of the present government.
- Detailing the achievements of his government during the last three-and-a half years, he said work on development works on 14 projects worth crores was apace in village Munak.
- The development works included sports stadium in Munak at the cost of Rs 77 lakh, establishment of BDPO office and building, construction of Anganwadi centre, developing of pond into five pond system, regional chaupal, general chuapal and Gadhariya chaupal, and work on streets and drains at the cost of lakhs of rupees.
- “Our first duty is to serve the public. There has been equitable regional development in the state. We are keeping our promise made during the elections, So far, the state government has made 3,700 announcements out of which work on 3,200 announcements is apace and most of them have been completed”, he added.
- MLA, Mr Bakhshish Singh Virk, said in the last three-and-a half years of the present government, the picture of Assandh had completely transformed and the credit went to the Chief Minister. Under the leadership of Mr Manohar Lal, Assandh and Jundla got a government college each, bypass at the cost of Rs 86.26 crore has been constructed in Assandh, Anaj Mandi has been expanded at the cost of Rs 40 crore, sub-depot of roadways opened at the cost of Rs 5 crore, PWD rest house built at the cost of Rs 3.57 crore, old bypass repaired at the cost of Rs 2.5 crore and the pond at Assandh developed into five-pond system at the cost of Rs 2.5 crore.
- Chandigarh, May 20– Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal today announced to enhance the ex-gratia grant being given to family members of police personnel who die in the line of duty from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 30 lakh. Out of this, Rs 20 lakh would be given to the dependent of the deceased and Rs five lakh each to the parents. In case both father mother not alive, the grant money would be given to the dependent. Apart from this, financial assistance of Rs15 lakh would be given to terminally injured police personnel, Rs 10 lakh to severely injured and Rs five lakh would be given for minor injuries.
- The Chief Minister was speaking at the Haryana’s biggest ever passing out parade to induct 4225 constables of 84th batch of Recruit Basic Course in the police force after 10 months intensive training at Madhuban in Karnal.

- He announced to set up six traffic police stations in the state jurisdiction on Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) and Kundli-Gaziabad-Palwal (KGP) highways, one each in district of Sonipat, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Mewat, Palwal and Faridabad to regulate traffic on the expressway.
- Describing the pass out batch as the most educated, the Chief Minister said that more than 50 per cent recruits have higher qualification. He said that NOC is not required for the purpose of career promotion such as applying elsewhere for higher post. The police personnel would have only to inform the department. This would also enable others having higher qualification to opt the police force in future. A provision for higher studies would also be made in police for those who wish to continue studies after XII.
- Giving mantra of four ‘N’ of Naitikta, Nayaya, Nidarta and Nipunta, the Chief Minister urged the pass out to diligently discharge their duty toward maintaining law and order at the place of postings in the state to further improve the image of State Police force. He also congratulates the family members of pass out for sending their wards in service of society and the nation. He also announced four day holiday for pass out recruits.
- Speaking on this occasion, Director General of Police, Mr B.S. Sandhu said that out of 4225 pass out, most of the recruits are postgraduate and graduate in different stream including Science, engineering, commerce, political science, computer, LLB and teaching. Their services would be taken in the Police Mitra Kaksh as well as Haryana 100 project which is being set up in Panchkula. He said that more than 2.5 lakh recruits have been trained so far in the academy.
