Chandigarh, October 4– Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal while speaking at the 72nd All India Police Wrestling Cluster event held at Vachher Stadium, Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban today emphasized the significance of traditional sports like wrestling and kabaddi in the state's cultural heritage.
He said that these sports not only provide entertainment but also instill values, discipline, and inspiration in the youth. It's indeed a testament to Haryana's rich sporting tradition that the state is renowned as the ‘land of sports’, said Sh. Manohar Lal after inaugurating the five-day 72nd All India Police Wrestling Cluster event.
Meanwhile, the 72nd All India Police Wrestling Cluster event, featuring participation from 36 teams and over 2500 players, stands as a significant platform for showcasing the talent and dedication of police personnel in sports.
The Chief Minister's recognition of the police force's role in maintaining law and order, often confronting situations akin to a ‘dangal’ (wrestling), is commendable. The comparison between sports and policing highlights the courage and commitment required in both fields, he said.
Highlighting state government's initiatives taken for sportspersons, the Chief Minister said that job reservations for sportspersons and the establishment of hockey and boxing nurseries, demonstrate a firm commitment to nurturing young talent. Offering substantial cash prizes to Olympic gold medalists from Haryana serves as a strong incentive for athletes to excel on the international stage, he said.
He said that sports is the pride of Haryana and this can be gauged from the fact that recently, in the 19th Asian Games being held in China, players from Haryana have won 19 out of the 71 medals won by the country so far.
The Chief Minister commended Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi's emphasis on the significance of physical fitness. He said that Prime Minister Modi believes that achieving fitness through methods like yoga or participating in sports leads to success.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the positive influence of physical fitness, especially through sports, on individuals and the nation as a whole.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister acknowledges the substantial contribution of police personnel, particularly those from Haryana Police, in promoting fitness and sports. They are seen as embodying and actively promoting Prime Minister Modi's message of "If you are fit, you are hit" through their robust and physically fit presence.

Earlier speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police, Sh. Shatrujeet Kapur said that the Haryana Police's efforts to combat drug abuse and corruption are crucial for the well-being of society. Initiatives such as women police stations, women help desks, and self-defense training for women contribute to enhancing safety and gender equality.
The establishment of the Haryana State Narcotics Bureau and efforts to create awareness about drug abuse reflect a commitment to tackling a pressing issue affecting the youth, he said.
He further said that the integration of technology, such as CCTNS, to streamline police services and record-keeping is a progressive step toward improving law enforcement and citizen services.
“Haryana Police is at the forefront in the country by connecting 380 police stations through CCTNS to maintain records and citizen services of police stations.,” said, Sh. Shatrujeet Kapur.
On this occasion, Secretary, Sports Organizing Committee, Sh. Kulwinder Singh, ADGP, CID, Sh. Alok Mittal, ADGP Smt. Kala Ramachandran, IG Karnal, Sh. Satender Kumar and many officers and players from different states were present.
