Chandigarh, April 5- Haryana Cabinet which met under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal here today approved the draft of The Sonipat Metropolitan Development Authority (SMDA), Sonipat, 2023 bill. The Bill aims to strengthen the existing institution design for the governance of the Sonipat Metropolitan Area.
The draft Bill objectifies to develop a vision for the continued, sustained and balanced growth of the Sonipat Metropolitan Area through the quality of life and reasonable standard of living provided to residents through the generation of Employment opportunities and to provide for integrated and coordinated planning, infrastructure development and provision of urban amenities, mobility management, sustainable management of the urban environment and social, economic and industrial development,
The Government has decided to establish the Sonipat Metropolitan Development Authority (SMDA), Sonipat on the pattern of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Gurugram, Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA), Faridabad and Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA), Panchkula to develop a vision for the continued, sustained and balanced growth of the Sonipat Metropolitan Area. The Authority is expected to strengthen the town level facilities and infrastructure.
The Chief Minister will be the Chairperson of the Authority, while Minister Incharge Town and Country Planning, Minister Incharge Urban Local Bodies and Minister Incharge Transport, Members of Parliament, Members of the State Legislature, Mayor and Senior Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation, Sonipat and several senior officers of the State Government will be the ex-officio members.
