Chandigarh, January 31 – The Manohar Lal-led government, while taking yet another step towards its zero-tolerance policy against corruption has announced to rename  State Vigilance Bureau as Anti Corruption Bureau.

The Chief Minister took a decision in this regard while chairing an important meeting with the Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and Superintendents of Police, Divisional Vigilance Bureau held here today.

Chief Secretary, Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal, Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Sh. D.S Dhesi and Additional Director General of Police, CID, Sh.  Alok Mittal also remained present in the meeting.

Directing the officers, Sh. Manohar Lal said that corruption would not be tolerated at any level in the state, be it officers, employees or any other, everyone has to perform their duties with complete transparency and honesty. The officers of the Anti-Corruption Bureau will have to work more actively so that corruption can be rooted out.

Notably, time and again, Chief Minister had strengthened the State Vigilance Bureau at the divisional and district level and appointed nodal officers separately, resulting in the increase in vigilance raids. Besides this, the number of arrests and the registration of cases against corrupt government officials, employees, and private persons have also increased.

Meanwhile, several contractors of engineering works were arrested red-handed while taking bribes. Cases were registered against all such corrupt under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. In many cases, the court has awarded rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.
