Chandigarh, September 21 – Haryana Government while working on war footing to control the spread of the Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) has successfully vaccinated 17.35 lakh livestock against LSD. As per the records, the State has completed this vaccination work faster than other states. Because of the effective vaccination, the number of LSD-affected animals in the State has also decreased. Now animals below the age of four months or those affected by this virus have been excluded from the vaccination drive because in either case, such cows cannot be vaccinated.
The Chief Minister had given strict directions to the officers concerned to take precautionary measures at the initial stage of the disease. Sh. Manohar Lal did a close monitoring of the formulation of the strategies to control the disease spread.
20 lakh vaccine doses made available in Haryana
While working on a mission mode to control the spread of LSD, Sh. Manohar Lal not only ensured the required measures but also held regular talks with the Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Sh. Parshottam Rupala regarding the availability of vaccine in the State. As a result of these devoted efforts, Haryana got a stock of 20 lakh vaccine doses and the vaccination drive was swiftly carried out. Besides this, animal husbandry department has also made arrangements for medicines for the safety of the disease-affected animals.
Also, the imposition of section 144 to ban the movement of animals, played a significant role in containing the disease spread. The Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to ensure strict compliance on the said ban.
Proper fogging is being ensured for the prevention of flies and mosquitoes
As certain species of blood-sucking vectors like mosquitos, ticks, houseflies, etc are the major factors behind the LSD outbreak, therefore proper fogging is being ensured in all the gaushalas of the state so as to keep the animals clean from the attack of these vectors. Besides this, proper burial of the virus-affected dead animals has also been ensured by the District Administration, which has also helped in the containment of the disease spread.
An additional amount of Rs 7 lakh each was given to each district
The Chief Minister had also given an additional amount of Rs 7 lakh each to every district for the procurement of the vaccine. Along with this, he also directed all the officers and employees of the Animal Husbandry Department to ensure administration of the vaccine at the earliest. All the doctors working at 1042 veterinary hospitals of the state has completed this vaccination drive. Vaccination of all the animals above 4 months of age is being done.
