Chandigarh February 14: Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal said that all Jail Superintendents should actively promote the steps being taken to inculcate moral values in the prison premises along with providing better services to the prisoners. While, Jail Superintendents will be encouraged on a ranking basis for their efforts made towards bringing in comprehensive reforms in prisons under an innovative approach.
The Chief Minister said this while addressing a seminar organized in the District Secretariat Auditorium on Sunday regarding improvement of the Prison Department. Power and Jail Minister, Sh. Ranjit Chautala, Director General of Police, Sh. P.K Agarwal, Director General, Prisons, Mohammad Akil also shared their views in the seminar.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also announced to provide phone facility to the Jail Superintendents at the level of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The Chief Minister said that the jail staff has an important role to play in the improvement of the jail department. Strict action should be ensured against any staff personnel who are found carrying out any unacceptable event in the jail so that the jail system is not affected in any way, said the Chief Minister.
He said that the ranking of total 20 Jails located in the state would be done and the superintendents of the jails who will bag the first three positions would be promoted as the best jails.
The Chief Minister urged the Jail Superintendents to fulfill their responsibility in providing security as well as other essential services. He said that there should be a classification of the prisons and how to improve them further.
In the seminar organized about the necessary efforts and possibilities towards prison reforms, Director General, Tihar Jail, Sh. Sandeep Goel, Vartika Nanda associated with the social organization, Dr. Upneet Lalli, Deputy Director, ICA, former DGP, Dr. K.P. Singh, Medical Officer, Dr. Himanshu discussed in detail the aspects related to other skill development along with improving the mentality of the prisoners.
The Chief Minister honoured the speakers by presenting them mementoes and said that their suggestions would definitely contribute to the development of the Jail Administration.
Director General of Police, Sh. P.K Agarwal, MD, Haryana Police Housing Corporation, Dr. R C Mishra, ADGP CID, Sh. Alok Mittal, IG Rewari Range M. Ravi Kiran, former IPS, Sh. Anil Rao, Deputy Commissioner, Nuh, Sh. Ajay Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Nuh and Sh. Varun Singla along with other dignitaries also remained present on this occasion.
