Chandigarh, November 8: Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal announced to name the mini sports stadium built by Karnal Smart City Limited in about 4 acres on the name of The Flying Sikh Sardar Milkha Singh Playground today at Gappu Wala Bagh site in Ward 16. He added that a statue of Sardar Milkha Singh would be installed at the gate of the sports ground. He also announced to build a community centre and library on its first floor on about two and a half acres of land adjoining it and said that a yoga shed would be built at one corner of the sports ground, in which yoga classes would be held.
Apart from this, it was also announced that on 7 acres of land available in Kailash village, adjacent to Karnal where astroturf field for hockey would be built at a cost of about Rs.8 crore. He added that there is a dense population of people belonging to poor and middle class families around this sports ground, for their convenience, the councillor or mayor of this ward will fulfill their demands.
On this occasion the Chief Minister inaugurated 4 projects, including mini sports stadium, beautification of Atal Park, strengthening of various roads and construction work on footpaths, constructed at a cost of about Rs. 8.22 crore.
He said that Haryana has now become the hub of sports, where all possible facilities are being provided for the players. He said that in the recent Olympic Games, promising players of this state had brought laurels to the state by winning medals and making State proud. In these games, 40 percent of the medals won by players from across the country were players of Haryana.
After this, the Chief Minister inaugurated the practice match of the players in the Volleyball Court set up at the Mini Sports Stadium. Similarly he also interacted with the players of Hockey at the Stadium and also encourage players of both the game to move forward in the game. He also gave his autograph on volleyball on the occasion.
Karnal MP, Sh. Sanjay Bhatia congratulated the citizens of this area for the mini sports stadium and said that what the previous governments could not do in the last sixty-seventy years, the present government has done it. He appealed the children present in the program to play sports along with studies so that the harmonious balance between the physical and mental development can take place simultaneously.
Haryana Minister of State for Sports, Sardar Sandeep Singh, who was present during the programme, said that the Chief Minister has worked for the betterment of every section of the state. In the context of sports, he said that the players of Haryana have earned laurels for the state everywhere, be it Asian Games or Olympics. All kinds of facilities are available for the players in the state, the players are given jobs, money and fame. The amount of daily diet and track suit has been increased for the players in the state. He said that today other states are also following the sports policy of Haryana.
Mayor, Smt. Renu Bala Gupta welcomed the Chief Minister, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister and other dignitaries. On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner and CEO of KSCL, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, Superintendent of Police, Sh. Ganga Ram Punia and other senior officers of the district administration.
