Chandigarh, August 17 - Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal today inaugurated the work of National Highway 709-A Karnal-Meerut road to be built at a cost of about Rs. 106 crore. He said that with the construction of this road, not only will the people of the State be benefited but people of Uttar Pradesh too will be able to commute easily. This route will be ready in the next 15 months.

The Chief Minister said this after the inauguration of this highway starting from Devi Lal Chowk Karnal to Yamuna Bridge. He said that length of this highway is approximately 14.5 kilometers. This highway will be dedicated to the public by February 2022.

He informed that this highway starting from Devi Lal Chowk to Sugar Mill Karnal will be of six-lane and four-lane from Sugar Mill to Yamuna Bridge. He informed that the total width of the six-lane highway will be 27.50 meters and the total width of the four-lane road will be 20.50 meters. One big bridge, 7 small bridges and 19 culverts will be built on this road. The Chief Minister said that with the construction of this highway, the problem of increasing traffic congestion will be resolved.

The Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Nishant Kumar Yadav to discuss with the villagers about the roads and culverts before the commencement of the work on this road, so that there is no obstruction in the construction work nor they face any problems.

He appealed to the public that in the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic they should follow the social distancing norms and come forward to donate plasma so that the lives of people in need can be saved. He said that Haryana has 84 percent recovery rate. In Haryana, active cases of COVID-19 are doubling in 30 days, while in other states of the country the doubling rate is 18 days.

On this occasion, Mr. Sanjay Bhatia, MP Karnal, Mr. Harvinder Kalyan, MLA Gharonda, Mr. Ramkumar Kashyap, MLA Indri, Mr. Dharampal Gonder, MLA Neelokheri and Chairman, Forest Development Corporation, Mayor, Mrs. Renu Bala Gupta, Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Nishant Kumar Yadav and Superintendent of Police, Mr. SS Bhoria were present.
