Chandigarh, July 10- Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal after ensuring the implementation of ‘Mera Pani-Meri Virasat’ Scheme, has now directed to constitute ‘Micro Irrigation Mission Authority’ and further prepare a plan for ground water management at district and state level. While converting COVID-19 crisis into an opportunity, Chief Minister, has held various meetings with Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Mr. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat through webinar and even personally and has got an approval for an amount of Rs 1000 crore for Haryana.

While sharing more information here today, an official spokesperson said that as per the directions of Chief Minister, Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority has adopted three and five pond-systems to treat water in rural areas in the state so that the treated pond water can be used for irrigation and other works. Besides this, the Authority is also swiftly working towards chalking out various other plans for the same.

He informed that the funds received from the Jal Shakti Ministry will be utilized for treating water in 14,000 ponds in Haryana. A Pond Atlas has been prepared by GIS mapping of all the ponds. In its first phase, 20 ponds are being developed as model ponds.

The spokesman said that to treat water of polluted ponds, the State will be using ‘Constructed Wetland System’ technology as that used by the former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University and Environmental Scientist, Professor CR Babu to treat wastewater into clean water at the Neela Hauz Bio-diversity Park situated in New Delhi. Under this technology, water is treated with the help of aquatic plant species of special kind.

The spokesperson said that Chief Minister is of the view that it should be ensured that every pond is emptied at least once a year and is refilled with canal water, rain and other sources so that water does not stagnate.

He informed that on the basis of this technique, work of the pond situated in Keorak village in Kaithal district is almost complete. He said that as far as possible, solar pump system for the drainage of every pond should be installed so that electricity can be saved.

The spokesman said that upcoming meeting of Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority will be held on July 25, 2020 in which Chief Minister will review the project of all ponds.
