Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal said that the state government has made persistent efforts and has done a lot of work to enhance education in the state, especially for the girl-child, along with other areas.
Earlier, the government had planned to build a college for girls within a radius of 20 kilometres, which has now been reduced to 15 kilometres. Soon this limit will be further reduced to 10 km so that girl students do not have to travel so as to pursue higher education. Besides this, the budget for education has been augmented in order to do away with scarcity of funds for education-related works and projects.
The Chief Minister said this after inaugurating the newly constructed Academic Block at Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani through video conferencing here today. He said that the commencement of this block named after India's renowned mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan will further enhance the academic activities of the University. The Chief Minister also acknowledged that he was proud to name this Academic Block by the name of the great mathematician Ramanujan because he himself has also been a student of mathematics. He said that Ramanujan was a brilliant student since college time and in the year 1912 he had created a calendar from which any day and date could be ascertained. Going down the memory lane almost 50 years ago, the Chief Minister shared an anecdote in which he had once come across a 20-year calendar at a fair. He said that on looking at the calendar it struck him that a calendar with more than 20 years be made. After much deliberation on this, he also made a similar calendar from which any day and date could be ascertained.
Speaking on the prodigy mathematician, the Chief Minister said that Ramanujan's fame gradually reached Cambridge University and Professor Hardy invited him, then he responded to that invitation and carried out research there for 5 years. The Chief Minister said that we should also take inspiration from this name and suggested that study of mathematics should be started in this block and students should also be educated in Vedic Mathematics.
Mr. Manohar Lal said that the new NAtional Education Policy includes courses as per today's needs such as Skill Development and IT. Also, special emphasis has been laid on developing moral values in students. Mr. Manohar Lal said despite being a small state, Haryana has about 50 universities, including government and private universities imparting general education as well as Technical, Sports, Medical and Ayurvedic Universities.
Mr. Manohar Lal said that it is the responsibility of the concerned University to get the students passport made so that they do not have to bother for it. Also, many students face difficulty for pursuing Higher Education due to lack of money. For this, the state government has started loan facility on government guarantee. Also, a fund has been especially created to repay the loan of those students who are facing difficulty in doing so. He said that Coaching Centres have also been created to impart education to children belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL), Scheduled Caste and Backward Classes. To ensure residential facilities for poor children a Hostel Scheme has also been started. To impart appropriate education to school children two coaching centres have also been opened under the ‘Super 100’ Scheme. In view of the success of these Centres, two more such Centers will be opened.
Earlier, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr. J.P. Dalal said that no Chief Minister has worked as much in the field of education like the present Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal. He further added that today is the beginning of starting outstanding Universities in Bhiwani. He said that along with fulfilling the basic amenities like roads, canals and electricity and water, it is the responsibility of the state to ensure development of an educated society.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Manohar Lal released the book 'Guru Nanak Dev Kavya Aur Chintan Dhara', ‘Chaudhary Bansai Lal Vishwavidhalaya Samagra Prichaya', annual magazine Arohan and ‘Charitra Nirman Avam Vyaktitva Vikas’ published by the University.
Among other dignitaries present on the occasion were the Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Mr. D.S. Dhesi, Director General of Higher Education Department, Mr. Ajit Balaji Joshi.
