Chandigarh, July 24- Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal said 100 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) have been set up in the State with the aim to treat sewage water flowing out of cities and make it useable for agricultural purpose. He said that the plan of using the STP treated water in agriculture will be linked with the Irrigation Department, so that thousand of acres of land can be irrigated with treated water.

The Chief Minister said this while inspecting the 50 MLD Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at Sector-37, Karnal today. An amount of Rs 74.43 crore has been spent on the construction of this STP and it has been built on an area of six acres, while the total area of the plant is 11 acres.

He also inspected mechanical screen, main pumping station, SBR (Scientific Batch Reactor), Grit Chamber, Belt Filter Press House and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) room.

Speaking on the occasion regarding the STP set up by the Municipal Corporation, he said that 80 to 90 MLD of sewage water comes out from Karnal on a daily basis. A STP having a capacity of 120 MLD has been set up in the city for the treatment of this sewage water. He said that earlier the water used to drain out and go waste, but with the formation of this STP, 6000 acres of land in Karnal will be irrigated with the treated water.

On this occasion, MLA Gharaunda, Mr. Harvinder Kalyan, Mayor, Mrs. Renu Bala Gupta, Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Nishant Kumar Yadav, Superintendent of Police, Mr. S.S. Bhoria and other dignitaries were present.
