Chandigarh, June 17 – Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal has appealed to the people to practice yoga and ensure that it is a part of their routine for a fit and ailment-free body as yoga connects the mind, body, and soul and helps us to attain a positive direction. He said that while abiding by the rules of lockdown due to COVID-19 this year, we will have to follow the dictum, "Yoga from home with Family" (‘Ghar se Yog, Parivar ke sath Yog’) given by Union Ministry of AYUSH.
While giving a message for the sixth International Yoga Day falling on June 21, 2020, to the people of the state the Chief Minister said that the country had been ruled by the Britishers for a long time, due to which yoga was practiced by sages and monks only and thereby didn’t reach the common man. But in the year 2014, a new revolution was initiated due to the efforts of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and Yoga became an integral part of the lifestyle of people and thus this ancient practice of India was revived. He said that this year, we will not be able to organize yoga programmes at the state level like earlier, but we can celebrate International Yoga Day by staying at home and practicing yoga with our family.
The Chief Minister said that today Yoga has rejuvenated the health of the people and even the youth of the state practice it as a part of their daily lifestyle. He also appealed to the people to participate in the "Mera Jeevan-Mera Yoga" video blogging competition released by the Ministry of AYUSH. To bring positive variations in the mindset of the people due to COVID-19, the Chief Minister said that on the International Yoga Day this year, let's practice Yoga and spread happiness.
It is noteworthy that six years ago, Mr. Narendra Modi got a resolution passed in the United Nations General Assembly and started the International Yoga Day by getting the support of 177 countries in favour of Yoga, which resulted in over 200 countries celebrating Yoga Day across the world.
