Chandigarh, June 16 – Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal has accorded approval for constituting a seven-member committee under the Chairpersonship of Chief Secretary to replace manual cleaning of sewers and septic tanks manholes, etc with mechanized solutions.
Sharing more details, an official spokesman said that Administrative Secretary, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Department (being Nodal Department), is the Member Secretary of the committee. While Chief Administrator, Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran, Administrative Secretary, Urban Local Bodies Department, Administrative Secretary, Development and Panchayat Department, Managing Director Haryana Scheduled Caste Finance and Development Corporation, Administrative Secretary Public Health Engineering Department, Secretary Haryana State Commission for Safai karamcharis are the members of this committee.
Sharing the detail about the key roles and responsibilities of this committee, the spokesman said that the committee has been constituted to take necessary steps for setting up of responsible sanitation authority and emergency response sanitation units. It would take necessary steps to completely ban manual cleaning and to provide mechanized solutions for cleaning. The committee would further investigate, examine and monitor all matters relating to the safeguards provided for the Safai Karamcharis. Besides this, the committee would also monitor the activities related to the payment to the families of the victims and to advise on the planning process of their socio-economic and educational development and to evaluate the progress of their development, he added.
