Chandigarh September 25- The ongoing Drug-Free Haryana Cyclothon Yatra which is in its final stage as it will be concluding in the Karnal today, is more than just a physical challenge but it's a testament to the Manohar Lal-led government’s unwavering commitment to a drug-free future. Since its launch on September 1, 2023, this Cyclothon combines community spirit, physical endurance, and a powerful message of hope.
Meanwhile, as the Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal today flagged off the Cyclothon Yatra from Agrasen Chowk Jagadhri in Yamunanagar district for Karnal, the cyclists pedal forward on the state’s remarkable journey demonstrating dedication to the well-being of its citizens and a brighter, drug-free future for all.
In a resolute effort to combat drug addiction and promote a healthier future for its citizens, this month-long event has undoubtedly marked the beginning of an inspiring campaign, spanning 22 districts across Haryana. It has now embarked on a groundbreaking journey combining physical endurance with a powerful message, aiming to create a world record while battling the scourge of drug abuse.
A Pledge Against Drugs
With unwavering determination, after flagging off the Cyclothon, the Chief Minister urged the crowd to take a pledge to steer clear of drug usage. He affirmed the government's uncompromising stance against drug traffickers and emphasized the critical need to dismantle the drug supply chain.
Recognizing the power of the younger generation, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of educating and motivating them to actively participate in nation-building, steering them away from the destructive path of addiction.
Sh. Manohar Lal said that this Cyclothon Yatra has garnered widespread support from various sectors of society. NGOs, educational institutions, religious organizations, and government departments have joined forces, illustrating the strength of community unity in combating drug abuse.
A World Record in the making
With over 1,15,000 participants, the Cyclothon Yatra aspires to set a world record for its commitment to a drug-free Haryana. Notably, some participants, including individuals in their sixties, have cycled nearly 2,000 kilometres, showcasing the unwavering spirit of the cause.
The Cyclothon Yatra's impressive route covers a distance of 1,978 kilometres, winding its way through various districts before culminating in Karnal. This journey is a physical and symbolic representation of the determination to create a drug-free Haryana.
Meanwhile, as the Cyclothon Yatra made its way to Twin City Yamunanagar from Karnal, it received an enthusiastic welcome. The city's vibrancy shone through with cultural presentations by students from various educational institutions, symbolizing the community's united front against drug abuse.
A Year-Long Campaign
This monumental campaign against drug addiction commenced on May 5, 2023 (the birthday of the Chief Minister), and will continue in various forms until May 5, 2024. It signifies a sustained commitment to transform the future of the state.
Government's Vigilance
The Chief Minister said that in its pursuit of breaking the drug supply chain, the government has taken stringent measures against drug traffickers. Additionally, the government is actively working to dismantle the illegal properties of those involved in the drug trade.
He further shared that about 4 months ago, seized drugs worth Rs 100 crore were destroyed in Haryana by burning them publicly. People who are badly addicted to drugs have to be treated in de-addiction centres and connected to the mainstream. To encourage citizens to participate in the battle against drug traffickers, a dedicated mobile number (90508-91508) has been established for reporting information. Confidentiality of the informant's identity is guaranteed, said Sh. Manohar Lal.
School Education and Forest Minister, Sh. Kanwar Pal, Mayor, Sh. Madan Chauhan, Special Officer, Community Policing and Outreach, Sh. Pankaj Nain, Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Manoj Kumar, SP, Sh. Mohit Handa and other officers, employees and dignitaries also remained present on this occasion.
