Chandigarh, September 25– Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal today inaugurated the construction work of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Government Medical College in Panjupur village, Yamunanagar. This project, estimated to cost around Rs 1200 crore, aims to be completed in approximately 30 months.
The Chief Minister along with Forest and School Education Minister, Sh. Kanwar Pal, Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, Dr. Sumita Misra inspected the layout project of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Government College and also planted saplings in the campus. After this, the Chief Minister performed Bhoomi Pujan of the Government Medical College amidst the chanting of mantras.
The Chief Minister congratulated and extended his best wishes for the Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Government Medical College Project. Under this initiative, a 100-seat Medical College, a 500-bedded hospital, a Nursing College, and a Physiotherapy Institute will be constructed. The project, initially announced in 2021 and then in 2022, the state government had announced to name this college after Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Manohar Lal emphasized the importance of maintaining good health through activities like yoga, walking, and cycling, along with adopting healthy eating habits.
He said that the present state government is actively working on expanding healthcare services by establishing medical colleges and hospitals in every district. He also mentioned the Nirogi Yojana, which aims to check the health of 1 crore 41 lakh people with income upto Rs 1.80 lakh in the first phase, with 21 lakh people already examined and this target will be achieved in the coming 1.5 years.
The Chief Minister highlighted the implementation of Ayushman Yojana and the Chirayu Yojana in the state. He said that the Chirayu Yojana offers benefits to individuals with an income of up to Rs 3 lakh after paying a premium of Rs 1500. Currently, 15000 families have registered for this scheme, with the expectation that the number will soon reach 50,000.

Forest and School Education Minister, Sh. Kanwar Pal, while expressing his gratitude to the Chief Minister, said that this medical college will certainly provide much-needed healthcare services not only to the people of Yamunanagar but also to residents of neighbouring states.
He said that the government has worked to double medical services during its tenure and has addressed the shortage of doctors. Additionally, healthcare facilities have been expanded, including the conversion of two 12-bed hospitals into 30-bed facilities in this region, asserted Sh. Kanwar Pal.
