Chandigarh, January 8: Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal inaugurated the residential campus built at the cost of Rs. 37 crore at Pandit Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing & Visual Arts (PLCSUVA), Rohtak on Friday.
While inaugurating the campus through virtual mode from Gurugram, the Chief Minister said that PLCSUVA has been a sanctuary of art since its inception. It’s heartening to see young students carrying forward the baton of promoting art and culture, especially of Haryana, he added. He said that he was glad that the faculty and staff of the university can now avail the residential facility and work with renewed rigour towards making this institution even more worthy.
Vice Chancellor, PLCSUPVA, Professor Rajbir Singh thanked the Chief Minister for his involvement, and for extending support to this long-pending demand for the residential quarters at the university. He shared with the Chief Minister that the whole residential campus has been modelled on modern urban landscaping and infrastructure. It also includes eco-friendly measures like rain harvesting system and solar water heating facilities. The Vice Chancellor also shared with the audience that PLCSUPVA is the only university in the country to offer niche creative programmes like Film & TV, Visual Arts, Architecture and Visual Arts, he added. He said that today the university is competing with eminent institutes like FTII, Pune and National Institute of Design.
He said that at the moment, the residential campus comprises faculty residence, Vice Chancellor's residence and a Girls’ hostel, covering a total area of 9.77 acres. The first phase offers two types of houses- 1900 sq. ft. and 950 sq. ft. with a total of 48 flats, he added. He said that a separate electric sub-station with transformers and generator facilities has been constructed for uninterrupted electric supply to the residential campus. Similarly, an underground water tank for domestic use and garden maintainance has also been constructed, he added. He said that apart from this, the internal roads with side footpath and street lights have been developed for better navigation.
He said that going ahead, various other components will be constructed in the 2nd phase which includes 72 more flats for the staff, a Faculty Club and another Girls’ Hostel, with a projected cost of around 32 crores.
The faculty, staff and university officers including Registrar, Dr. Kiran Kamboj witnessed the inauguration by participating through video conferencing.
