Chandigarh, 6 January: The 11th meeting of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Manohar Lal, Chief Minister of Haryana and Chairman of GMDA. In this meeting organized at the Public Works Rest House (PWD) of Gurugram, many important projects were discussed to speed up the development of Gurugram city. The annual budget of the authority will also be higher this year than last year as several infrastructure development projects are in the GMDA pipeline.
The projects proposed to be taken up by the GMDA were presented by Shri Sudhir Rajpal, Chief Executive Officer, GMDA and discussed by the members of the Authority. The proceedings of the 10th meeting of GMDA were also approved in the meeting.
New proposals and plans were put forth by the GMDA in today's authority meeting to provide civic amenities and citizen services better. In today's meeting, treated sewerage water will be made available for irrigation by laying a pipeline from STP Beharampur STP to Nuh distributary. This proposal of about Rs 618 crore was approved in the Authority meeting wherein the Irrigation Department will bear the cost of laying the pipeline.
The CEO, GMDA outlined that in the year 2021-2022 executed infrastructure development projects worth Rs 556.44 crores viz-a-viz to the expense of Rs 447 crores incurred in 2020-2021. Presently, 40 projects amounting to Rs 1083.25 crore are ongoing in Infra 1 division while 14 projects amounting to Rs 1141.99 crore are in pipeline. 24 projects worth 580.48 crore of the Infra 2 Division are ongoing while 13 projects worth Rs 1115.36 crore are in the pipeline. Smart City Division is executing 2 projects amounting to Rs 162.22 crore are ongoing while projects worth Rs 61 crore are in the pipeline of the Mobility Division.
In today's meeting, the measures to save about 2500 acres of agricultural land adjacent to the Najafgarh dam, which are submerged, were also discussed. It was submitted that by making a lake in about 97 acres, the land of the farmers would be saved from submergence. Additionally, the Leg-2 and Leg 3 (Badshahpur drain) will also be connected with Najafgarh Drain. At present, the sewerage water of Gurugram city is also getting disposed here. To curb the same, approval has been given to lay a pipeline from STP Beharampur to Nuh distributary. After the completion of this work, only during heavy mosoon periods waterlogging can occur which with the connection of Leg 2 and Leg3 drain will get runoff into Najafgarh drain.
The pilot project of the installation of Floating Solar Power Plant of 4 MW capacity at Chandu-Budhera Water Treatment Plant (WTP) area has received the approval from the Authority and will now become the first ever such floating solar power plant in the state. The project will be executed on the RESCO model and will prove to be an economical source of electricity to the plant and will reduce the evaporation levels at the WTP.
The agenda for decongestion of traffic at Bakhtawar Chowk in anticipation of future increase of vehicular movement on this busy intersection was also put up in the meeting today wherein a grade-separator along Subhash Marg has been planned at Bakhtawar Chowk. The GMDA officers submitted that integrated underpass-cum-metro structure may be preferred due to its benefits over the flyover model and the proposal was approved by the Authority.
Various works are being carried out by the Urban Environment Division of GMDA for the rehabilitation of Wazirabad Lake in about 18 acres, which includes construction of walking track as well as drainage of sewerage water, desilting, providing treated water to the lake and laying of trees along its boundary. Including fencing.

Various initiatives are also being taken under CSR to develop the lake area as a leisure destination for the citizens of Gurugram. It was proposed in the Authority Meeting today that leasing out space for café and boating facilities at the lake be considered. This proposal was also approved in the Authority Meeting.
In the meeting, the proposal to set up a new office of GMDA was also approved where in GMDA will set up its new office on about 2 acres of land at the water boosting station in Sector 16, Gurugram.
Present in the meeting were Union Minister of State for Statistics and Program Implementation Rao Inderjit Singh, Urban Development and Housing Minister Dr. Kamal Gupta and Transport Minister Shri S.K. Moolchand Sharma was also. Other dignitaries present in the program included OSD to Chief Minister Devendra Singh, MLA Gurugram Shri. Sudhir Singla, MLA Badshahpur Shri. Rakesh Daulatabad, Deputy Commissioner Gurugram Mr. Nishant Yadav, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Shri P.C. Meena, Joint Commissioner of Police Shri Kulwinder Singh and other officers.
